Think the exact opposite of buying for yourself. Nothing practical, anything PERSONAL. Keep in mind; she is going to tell people what you got her.

Flowers. Might seem easy, but try hand-picking them at a flower shop, it’s much more personal and she loves telling her friends you did it. (Be sure to tell her why you picked certain ones, she’ll enjoy hearing your responses, even if it’s because “it looked like a cool spider”)
Make her dinner. Sounds easy and cliché, but we love it. DO NOT skimp on the meal though; she will think you’re trying to be cheap and not romantic. Make something extravagant-even if it sucks, we will love you for it. (Options: think beef medallions with a cream-butter sauce, OR lobster—lobster is at its lowest price in 25 years, but she doesn’t have to know that!)
Get a room. Take her to the local Ritz, or even a B&B outside the city. Time with you is all she wants, take her away from the normal routine of your place. Plus sex is always better somewhere NEW. (Be sure to have wine and a WINE OPENER already there. Champagne is fine too, but red wine is a little sexier tip*most gals don’t like super dry wines like merlot, opt for something sweeter.)
Buy online gifts. If buying her a purse or a bracelet, purchase it from a store in another city. (Most stores have websites) If you live in Chicago, buy a gift from a boutique in Miami. She will like knowing her gift came from a far-away place and that nobody in her immediate circle will have something similar.
Channel your inner decorator. Buy her a painting or a picture for her place. (You may want help with this, be sure to ask a sales associate for suggestions) She will love that you purchased her something that she can display. And she thinks of you when she looks at it, It’s nice to be on someone’s mind.
